He obviously doesn’t play Dystopia 43, I thought.

He stared furiously at me. “What the hell was that thing?”

“A denizen,” I replied.

“You never said it could...”

“Because it wasn’t Angstrom’s,” I interrupted. “It wasn’t anything from Control. I’d bet my life that was from a Dystopia. Probably 43.” I looked at Fathom, who was shaking.

“What difference does that make?” screamed Hans.

Every difference in the world, I thought. “Control denizens are programmed to behave like the individual they’re copied from. If Angstrom wouldn’t have killed those men, then neither would his denizen.” Probably not anyway. “Dystopia ones are more violent, more aggressive, and less empathetic versions of themselves.” I paused. “And some of them have enhanced combat skills.”
